I was born in a small town in the farmlands of central-east Pennsylvania. Although my father was a dentist and my mother was a nurse , my parents decided that it would be beneficial for their children to grow up on a farm. I have fond memories of my childhood helping my father gardening – where I saw plants grow from seed, mature, blossom, and fruit - or wandering the fields and woods of our 72 acres - where I also learned to appreciate nature.

With an affinity for drawing, my parents encouraged me to develop my artistic skills. At the age of 9, I took oil painting and ceramic classes for two years from a wonderful art teacher in our small town.

Not knowing what to study in college, I entered a very small private school in Pennsylvania and studied Ornamental Horticulture. After two years, I learned about Landscape Architecture and felt quite intrigued that there was a profession which combined my interest in plants with my love of drawing. Being adventuresome, I chose to head south and finish my college education at Louisiana State University with a professional degree in Landscape Architecture.

Moving to Texas in 1976, I worked as a landscape architect for a number of firms before establishing my own firm in 1984. For over 33 years, I have maintained a successful landscape architectural and planning practice, utilizing my skills in art and design while also running the typical business aspects of a small company.

With the migration of my children out of the home, finding more free time, and with the encouragement of my wife, Jan, I re-established my interest in art and painting in the fall of 2007 – this after not picking up a paintbrush in over 45 years. Other than my childhood art classes and two courses in college, I have had no formal training in art.
